# 1. The Scarfist Monk

The Scarfist Monk was one of two multiples that surfaced before my attaining unto visions in 1989. While at Bible college in the 1970s, I was getting so ascetic and bored that I decided to start my own monastic order, the Scarfist Monks. Once a month I and my brothers would descend upon some poor unsuspecting restaurant in town and surround the food bar. At a pre-arranged signal we would attack the bar en masse and scarf as hard and fast as we could. We got so good at it we would sometimes suck the table cloth right off the bar, then make a bolt for the door.

While this became a real annoyance to the city we also achieved a certain notoriety. “Who were those guys with the bald spots on their heads?,” was the inevitable, slack-jawed reaction. “Why, those are the Scarfist Monks” was the refrain, and with a hearty Hi yo Silver, we hightailed it into the distance.

The Scarfist monk served as something of a prototype of a more contemporary incarnation now, the Friar Tuck of Tinseltown. But another one surfaced unexpectedly…
